Over on WalesOnline.co.uk, they’re discussing Mickie’s recent in-ring training with David Davies from the UK. Read below:
Tory Tornado Doesn’t Pull The Punches
David Davies has cemented his “action man” reputation by taking on champion American wrestler Mickie James. Mr Davies regularly boxes and is known in the ring as the Tory Tornado.
He was persuaded to spar with Ms James at London’s City Boxer gym and also wrestle with a former television Gladiator who was known as Oblivion but today fights as Magnus.
Mr Davies, who was once a self-described “fanatical surfer” and in his spare time volunteers as a special constable with the Metropolitan Police, encountered the two at London’s renowned City Boxer gym where he regularly trains.
He said: “It was fantastic getting to know Mickie and Magnus. I have huge respect for these wrestlers.
“Many young women could learn from Mickie in helping themselves, especially in self-defence.”
The respect was two-way as Ms James was astonished that a British parliamentarian would try out the wrestling moves.
She said: “It was amazing to meet such a down-to-earth and fun politician. You wouldn’t see an American congressman doing this.”
The two wrestlers take part in Impact Wrestling, which is shown every Sunday night on Challenge TV at 9pm.
Spokesman Simon Rothstein said: “He taught Mickie and Magnus all about how to throw punches. He is very good. Actually, they were telling me how impressed they were about how serious he was.”
Robert Rams, a friend of Mr Davies who witnessed the event, said: “He survived very well. He gave as good as he got. I think they shook hands at the end were good friends. No damage was done at the end.”
Ms James said: “I’ve promised David and his family backstage passes when Impact Wrestling tours the UK in January.”
